Duexis Pros and Cons

Duexis is a famotidine-ibuprofen combination. Famotidine is a histamine antagonist. Famotidine works by reducing the quantity of acid produced by the stomach. Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal pain reliever (NSAID). Ibuprofen reduces inflammatory and pain-causing mediators.

Duexis is a combo of 2 different drugs. Ibuprofen is effective in relieving the discomfort caused by arthritis. Long-term ibuprofen use has been linked to stomach and intestine ulcers, which can be prevented by taking famotidine. The combination of famotidine (Pepcid) with ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) does not produce the same results as Duexis.

DUEXIS is a prescription medication that is prescribed to treat:

  • Relieve rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis's symptoms.
  • Lower the risk of stomach and upper intestine ulcers in persons using ibuprofen for conditions such as arthritis.
It is unknown whether DUEXIS is safe and efficacious in paediatric patients

Duexis Pros and Cons

Duexis Pros

  • DUEXIS is a prescription-only medicine having ibuprofen as pain reliever and famotidine protects your stomach and provides effective relief in gastrointestinal problems.
  • DUEXIS is able to provide symptom relief for rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis (OA and RA), including pain and inflammation, in cases when medical treatment rather than surgical intervention is chosen for long term.
  • Unlike opioids, DUEXIS can alleviate your pain without placing you at risk for becoming dependent on it or addicted to it.
  • Ibuprofen alone increases stomach ulcer risk.
  • The effectiveness of DUEXIS was evaluated mostly in individuals who were under the age of 65 and did not have a previous history of stomach ulcers. Patients with OA and RA were prescribed NSAIDs for their long-term illnesses. During the six month observation period, people who took DUEXIS were less likely to get gastrointestinal problems than those who took ibuprofen alone.

Duexis Cons

  • DUEXIS can increase the risk of heart disease or stroke, which can be fatal. This risk may arise early in treatment and may grow with longer use and higher doses of NSAID-containing medications.
  • Patients who are elderly or who have a previous medical history of ulcer illness or bleeding in the stomach or intestines are at a higher risk of developing an ulcer or bleeding.
