Chinese Pistache Pros and cons, Leaf, Fruit, Lifespan

The Chinese Pistache has a modest rate of growth of around 13-24 inches each year and, when they arise from the trunk, its branches build a vase-shape. While it can achieve heights exceeding 60 feet, with a width of 25-35 feet, the Chinese Pistache usually grows to 25-35 feet tall. The Chinese Pistache has a wide, geometric canopy at maturity that is good for making shade in hot and arid places over sidewalks, parking areas, and a range of other locations. 

In order to attain the ideal geometric canopy, young Chinese Pistache trees are sometimes asymmetrical and need early structural pruning. Usually, the Chinese Pistache grows significantly taller than it grows horizontally, resulting in a moderately thick, rounded canopy. Older lower branches begin to fall over time towards the bottom, gradually forming a uniformly spread shape. The Chinese Pistache branches and trunks are resilient to wear and tear because they are made of incredibly robust wood. 

An additional pattern of pinnately compound deciduous leaves is noticed in the Chinese Pistache, which indicates that several leaflets are connected to several points along the rachis. Although these numbers differ, one foot long is the average Chinese Pistache leaf and constitutes of 10-16 leaflets that differ in size from 2 to 4 inches. 

The Pistache is immune to frost, diseases and pests, and a fast-growing tree. They can gain as much as 2 - 4 feet of growth each year with good management. At maturity, Chinese Pistache rise to 40 to 50 feet tall and 20 to 25 feet wide, and once grown, they are very resistant to drought. Many Pistache trees are lined along the sideways of main roads, and they tolerate the harsh conditions very well.

Pistache trees are dioecious, which means there are male and female trees that are separate. The female trees produce a great number of little fruit in large clusters when both male and female trees are planted. 

The colorful fruit starts to be green at the end of the summer, turns to be red, and eventually to the robin’s egg blue in the fall. The fruit hangs in clusters of bright red stalks.
