Prostatomegaly Grade 3

Prostatomegaly is a medical condition in which the size of prostate gland increases. Prostatomegaly is also known as benign prostate hyperplasia BPH. Prostatomegaly is the enlargement of prostate gland. Prostate gland is the main organ of men reproductive system. Without prostate gland, men are not fertile because it is responsible for production of semen. And semen is essential for reproduction. Prostatomegaly occurs after 40 to 45 years of age.

After 40 years, the cells of prostate gland start multiplying and it looks swelled. It is present right next to urethra. When prostate gland increases in size, it covers the urethra and as a result urinary retention occurs. Urinary retention is a condition in which low volume of urine passes from urethra and maximum volume remains in bladder. On the basis of increase in size of prostate gland, prostatomegaly is divided in to three main grades i.e. grade 1, grade 2 and grade 3.

Prostatomegaly is confirmed when the size of prostate gland increases up to 33 cc. 33 cc is equals to the weight of 30 grams. Diagnosis is easy via two methods i.e. radiographic imaging and physical examination. It is a muscular structure and small in size. It is really soft on touch. All the classified grades are different on the basis of severity of symptoms and the treatment assigned to them. In grade 1 and grade 2 the symptoms are mild and moderate respectively. And their treatment vary according to the symptoms.

But in grade 3 the symptoms are severe and are unbearable and its treatment is also different. The symptoms of grade 3 prostatomegaly causes so many other problems in men. In this grade of prostatomegaly, the medications are of no use and physician recommend surgery. In grade 3 prostatomegaly, the pain become unbearable because the flow of urine is totally blocked from urethra and leads to no urination. The size of prostate gland in grade 3 has increased more than 50 percent of the original size.

Patient does not feel comfortable and experience unbearable pain in lower abdominal region. He is not able to walk around freely or lay down on bed because of pain. So on emergency note, surgery is recommended. Now talking about surgical removal of prostate gland, there are some surgical procedures by which removal can be done easily. There are total three main surgical procedures named water induced thermotherapy, transurethral nasal ablation and transurethral microwave therapy. Water induced thermotherapy can be performed easily in the room of physician to the outpatients.

Patient does not have to be admitted in hospital. Another main procedure by which surgery can be performed is transurethral resection of prostate. The selection of surgical procedure is dependent on the diagnosis. Physical examination helps a lot in diagnosis. In case of in patients, two types of surgical procedures are performed i.e. prostectomy and transurethral incision of prostate gland. These two procedures require time for the proper recovery that's why patient have to be admitted in hospital.
